Using the Library Catalog
Basic Search
Choose from
these basic searches:
Title Keyword:
Type your
search here if you know part of the title.
Title Starts With:
Use this
search if you know the exact title.
Author (last name first):
Type your
search here if you know the author’s last name.
General Keyword:
This is the
broadest search possible and will search authors, titles, subjects,
notes and contents fields.
Subject Keyword:
Type here
to search subject headings.
General Keyword
search is recommended if you do not know the precise subject heading.
Children’s General Keyword:
Type here
to limit your search to children’s materials.
Results of Your Search
Click on
the desired title, author, etc. from the result list. If you don’t see
the title, author, etc. you are looking for, you may want to revise
your search or consult library staff for assistance.
Finding the Item
Location:
Indicates which library owns the item.
Collection and Call Number:
Indicates
where to look for the item.
Status:
Indicates
item availability.
Placing a Hold or Requesting an Item from Another Library
If the book
you want is checked out at your library or owned by another library, you
can have it sent to your library by:
· On
desired item page, click
Request Item
button.
· Enter
your library barcode and PIN # (last four digits of your phone #)
· Select
location where you would like to pick up the item.
· Click
Request
button
Requesting Items
(Placing Holds)
Search
for the item on which you want to place the hold. Find the
Request
Item button. On the
Search Results screen,
it will appear beneath the holdings for each item. On the
Details
screen, it appears to
the right of the author and title.
Click on
the
Request Item button.
Enter your library barcode and your PIN Number or the last four digits
of your phone number. Click on the Login button.
A
Request
Confirmation screen
will appear. Select the pickup location by clicking on the arrow at the
end of the box. Scroll down through the listed libraries and click on
the location where you would like to pick the item up. Click on the
Request button at the
bottom of the box.
To see
how many holds are on an item, search for the item and click on the
highlighted title or
Show
Details. The number of
requests is displayed in the middle of the screen.
If you
would like to place a hold on a specific copy of an item, (specific
volume of the
Wisconsin
Statutes or the latest
edition of
Writer’s
Market) search for the
item and click on the highlighted title or
Show
Details. Scroll down
until you see the
Copy/Holding Information.
To the right of each copy is a button labeled
Request
This Copy. Click on
that button, enter your library card number and PIN number, select
the pickup location and click on the
Request
button.
